The Summer That Never Was

Updated: Feb 7

Summer looked so promising in June. The end of school was approaching and as a family, we created a list of all the things that we wanted to do. We planned on having so much fun and creating as many memories as we could.

And now it is the last week of summer vacation and my kids will be starting school in a week. Our summer was eventful but NOT in a way that we were hoping. If you want to know more about that, see my blog post about hotel living here.

A few of our highlights from the summer was our trip to Waterton Lakes National Park. It was truly spectacular there. We were disappointed that the 2 trails we wanted to hike on weren’t open. Well, 1 was open but much longer than it was supposed to be. The kids were able to dress up as firemen and do a little obstacle course that they had set up. We then walked around the town of Waterton and had a picnic. Later on, we took the boat tour which was perfection.

This past weekend we went to Calaway Park with my husband’s work. His employer bought the tickets to the park, we had meal tickets for a BBQ, and we got to spend the day having fun. The kids laughed and rode on as many rides as they could. Iliza was sleeping before we drove out of the parking lot.

Berry picking was on our list and we were lucky enough to get sour cherries, Saskatoon berries, and a few raspberries in our own yard. The kids and I made our first jam this year with the berries that we were able to pick.

Looking back on the summer, I am sad that we didn’t get to experience what we had all planned. I wanted it to be a summer to remember because of all the memories we made. Instead, we had a summer to remember because of our awful luck that 2019 has seemed to keep raining down on us.

What are your best summer memories??
